Episode Notes

Talk to me, Goose!

At last, the Cruise Missile crashes into Aya Vs. The Big Boys. This week, Aya, Kevin, and special guest Dorie Bailey take on TOP GUN (1986), Tony Scott's (totally not gay) airforce film/recruitment tool. A major stop in the Tom Cruise canon and a Big Boy for its masculine energy and "80's action film that's been given new consideration as a serious film" energy, TOP GUN is... A lot!

Aya, Kevin, and Dorie attempt to unpack the film's gaze, while struggling to get a basic grasp on what exactly the movie's about outside the greased up bodies and sexual tension. There's a surprising It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia reference, some basic discussion of Tony Scott's obsession with professional jargon, and a reckoning with the question that plagues TOP GUN: why doesn't it go all the way extreme?

You'll have to listen to find out!
